Expertise & Interests
I use a social identity framework in most of the research I do and try to understand the ways in which social identities and intergroup relations play a role in the attitudes, intentions, and behaviours of people in various contexts. My research expertise and interests fall into three different but related areas.
Prosocial behaviour
What is conceptually and practically considered to be prosocial behaviour, and why?
What role do social identities and cognition play in helping decisions?
How can we improve humanitarian responses to global emergencies happening in distant countries?
Migration
What factors influence individual helping responses to refugees in one's own country versus in other countries?
Who should help refugees?
What are the ways in which the rights of refugees are communicated, and how do they affect people's perceptions of and attitudes toward refugees?
Meta-science
How can open science and decolonisation movements foster equality and inclusion in scientific knowledge production?
What are the poor but widely accepted scientific practices, and how can they be challenged and changed?
In which ways, do politics of scientific knowledge production influence research and teaching practices in academia?
